Pure Tone Audiometry
It is the subjective preliminary hearing test used to identify hearing ability of an individual, enabling determination of degree, type & configuration of hearing loss & thus providing a basis for diagnosis & management in cooperative patients.
It is an objective method based on measurement of pressure in the Middle ear, Stapedius reflex, ossicular integrity and tension of tympanic membrane. It is a reliable indicator for testing Middle Ear.
It covers following tests :
- Stapedial Reflex
OTOACOUSTIC EMISSION AUDIOMETRY (OAE)
OAE determines the cochlear status specifically hair cell function by measuring the otoacoustic emissions.
It is mainly used to Screen hearing particularly in neonates, infants or individuals with development disabilities.
BRAIN-STEM EVOKED RESPONSE AUDOMETRY (BERA)
It is an objective neurological test of auditory brainstem function in response to auditory (click) stimulus, useful in non-cooperative patients also.
It is mainly used for
- Newborn hearing screening
- Auditory threshold estimation
- Determining hearing loss type and degree
- Auditory nerve & brainstem lesion detection
- Development of cochlear implant.
